NCTE Approves One-Year B.Ed Program Again After 10 Years

The National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) has approved the one-year B.Ed program again after 10 years with certain conditions. The NCTE governing board also made some major decisions about the B.Ed course.

Following the National Education Policy (NEP) – 2020, a 4-year graduation-level course has been started. So, only those students who have completed a 4-year graduation course or have completed a masters course will become eligible to enroll in a one-year B.Ed program.

Reportedly, NCTE chairman Prof. Pankaj Arora said that the governing body has also approved bringing new regulations – 2025 which will replace the 2014 regulations.

NCTE has also given a nod to the ITEP specialized streams. According to the NCTE chairman, a 4-year Integrated Teacher Education Program (ITEP) is running in 64 educational institutions, where students are enrolled in B.Ed programs of their choice.

Now, ITEP yoga education, ITEP physical education, ITEP Sanskrit, and ITEP performing arts education will also get added to the existing streams. Notably, ITEP is a four yearly multidisciplinary bachelor degree with professional training which prepares students to become teachers.
