
Kerala Minister Slams NCERT For Hindi Titles On English Medium Books
Kerala Minister of General Education and Employment V Sivankutty criticised the National Council For Education over its decision to give Hindi names to English Medium books. The Kerala mininter calls the decision as illogical and accused the central government of ‘cultural imposition’ and ‘sabotaging the linguistic diversity of the country’.
The state minister calls the naming of English books in Hindi as absolutely wrong which can instil a sensitive approach in the minds of the students. Sinvankutty says the decision by NCERT against the federal principles and constitutional values.

The minister clarified that like the other non-Hindi speacking states Kerala is committed to protect the linguistic diversity and gives priority to regional cultural freedom.
Sivankutty has demanded that National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) review and withdraw the decision and asked all states to unite against such impositions. The Kerala minister said that the education must be an instrument of empowerment and consensus instead of imposition.
Recently, NCERT announced the new names of books for various classes. Class 1 and Class 2 books are now named as ‘Mridang’ and Class 3 book named as ‘Santoor’. Also, the Class 6 book is named from ‘Honeysuckle’ to ‘Poorvi’.

The name changes has reignited the language row as ministers from different states including Kerala and Tamil Nadu have accused the central government to ‘impose Hindi’ on school students through the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
