NEET Re-Exam For 1,563 Students; ‘No Rigging, Congress Playing With Future Of Country,’ Education Minister To Kharge

The National Testing Agency (NTA) announced that the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) 2024 for undergraduate admission will be reconducted on June 23, 2024, for 1,563 candidates who faced time loss during the original exam on May 5, 2024. This decision follows the recommendations of a High Powered Committee, which reviewed the grievances and granted compensatory marks. The results for these candidates will be announced on June 30, 2024. The original NEET exam, conducted across 4750 centers in 571 cities for over 24 lakh candidates, had its results declared on June 4, 2024.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge criticised the NEET exam process, alleging rigging, paper leaks, and corruption, and demanded a Supreme Court-supervised investigation. He stated that the actions of the Modi government have jeopardised the future of 24 lakh students and called for the culprits to be severely punished and students compensated to avoid wasting their academic year.

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan refuted Kharge’s claims, stating that no concrete evidence of rigging, corruption, or paper leaks had been found in the NEET exam. He emphasised that all relevant facts are under the Supreme Court’s consideration and highlighted the Central Government’s recent enactment of the Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act to prevent paper leaks and ensure fair exams. Pradhan accused Congress of playing politics with students’ futures and spreading lies without knowing the facts, stressing that such actions only create confusion and affect students’ mental peace. He urged Congress to focus on contributing to India’s development rather than engaging in petty politics.
