Responding to a petition filed by a learning app alleging rigging in the NEET-UG examinations, the Supreme Court today issued a notice asking the National Testing Agency (NTA) to answer the notice by July 8.
The hearing in the case will be conducted on July 8 regarding the alleged irregularities of the exams held on May 5.
The petition, following the allegation of malpractice after the declaration of the NEET-UG examination on June 4, raised concerns regarding the integrity of the conduct. The plea alleged that over 1,500 students were awarded grace marks, casting doubts about the overall rankings and fairness of the exam.
The petitioners have also raised the the students’ demand to access their Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) sheets. The court Justice Manoj Mishra and Justice SVN Bhatti reminded the exam body of the allegation of the violation of the fundamental rights of the students.

After the result was out, students started to protest against the examination body across the country. The row over the irregularities escalated further following the confession of some students that they received the NEET-UG question paper the day before the exam and that the questions that they were told to memorise matched the actual question paper.
In the wake of a strong public uproar over the lack of transparency, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) was tasked with investigating the allegations related to the question paper leak. The central probing agency has been actively examining the case.
In a joint sitting in Parliament, President Droupadi Murmu stated that the government assured that it was committed to a fair investigation of the allegations and that the responsible persons would receive stringent punishment.
