NSUI Condemns Action Of BHU Administration Against Students For Speaking Out Against Gangrape Incident

The National Students” Union of India (NSUI) today alleged that a Standing Committee in IIT-BHU took actions against students who spoke out against a horrifying gangrape incident at IIT-BHU. The Congress-affiliated student body has denounced the alleged actions by the administration.

In December last year, three individuals, identified as Kunal Pandey, Anand alias Abhishek Chauhan, and Saksham Patel, have been apprehended by the Uttar Pradesh police in connection with the reported rape of a female student from IIT Banaras Hindu University (BHU) campus. Among these three accused, two have affiliation with local BJP in the area in various capacities, according to reports.

Shockingly, NSUI has alleged that despite the seriousness of the crime, the BJP leadership shielded them. “They even allowed these individuals to take part in election campaigns during the MP Assembly Elections. What”s even more concerning is that these individuals have been seen in pictures with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, raising questions about the BJP”s commitment to justice” NSUI said in a statement.

Instead of ensuring that justice prevails, the BJP leadership chose to protect the perpetrators, said the student boy.

For two months, students within the university campus protested with a demand for accountability and justice for the victims. “However, instead of addressing these rightful concerns, the BJP Government in UP targeted student activists by registering a Fake FIR. Now after five months, they are pressurising the university administration to take disciplinary actions against the students. Many of these targeted students are members of NSUI,” the statement said.

“NSUI stands in solidarity with all students who have raised their voices for justice and accountability. We firmly reject the Modi government”s unacceptable approach of shielding rapists and stifling dissent. We are committed to fighting for justice, equality, and the rights of all individuals. NSUI will continue to support students who bravely advocate for justice and stand up against wrongdoing,” it added.
