Odisha Govt Suspends 4 Officials Over 2,000 Errors In Textbooks Preparation For Classes 1-8
Bhubaneswar, Odisha: The Odisha government has suspended four senior officers, including former director of State Council of Education, Research and Training (SCERT), Manoj Padhi, as part of the disciplinary action for allegedly being responsible for over 2,000 mistakes in textbooks being taught in Classes 1 to 8.
The state government took the action following an inquiry report submitted under the chairmanship of the Development Commissioner to examine errors in school textbooks. The government reportedly acknowledged 1,678 mistakes out of the total 2,100 errors the teachers pointed out in the textbooks printed for the 2026-27 academic year.
The mistakes included factual inaccuracies, grammatical errors, spelling mistakes and wrong references, with Class 8 textbooks having the highest number of errors.
The investigation team found out gross negligence on the part of the SCERT while preparing the textbooks, which were developed under the new curriculum in line with the National Education Policy 2020.
According to the probe, due process was not followed by the SCERT that led to such massive errors in the textbooks because of which the probe committee recommended action against Padhi, the then director of the SCERT. Notably, the books have already been distributed in many districts.
