Barmer, Rajasthan: Students from Multanmal Bhikchand Chhajed Kanya Mahavidyalaya in Rajasthan’s Barmer protested a fee hike on Saturday. The protesters demanded to meet District Collector Tina Dabi. After the student sought to meet Tina Dabi, police allegedly said that the collector is busy and hence cannot meet them, adding that she is their role model. The students then reacted, “She is not our role model, she is Reel Star.” For saying this, the police purportedly took some of the students into the station.

Criticism against the police action on students for calling the collector a reel star has also grown, with many wondering why police took the students for merely calling the collector a reel star.

A user, Indian Doctor, questioned the police action stating that if an officer actively seeks publicity through reels and social media. “Why is it unacceptable for the public to call them a “reelbaaz” or “reel star”? Is this democracy, or is even satire and opinion now a criminal offence?” the user asked.
