Supreme Court Dismisses Plea To Postpone NEET PG 2024

The Supreme Court on Friday dismissed a petition urging postponement of the NEET-PG 2024 examination filed by the medical students. The exam is scheduled to be held on August 11, 2024.

A Bench of Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud and Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra stated that it cannot order postponement of the exam a couple of days before the exam is slated to be held.

Supreme Court heard today a petition to postpone the NEET-PG 2024 exam scheduled on August 11. A 3-judge bench led by CJI DY Chandrachud heard the matter listed as item no 44. Sanjay Hedge appears for petitioners.

CJI said, “now to reschedule a PG exam, not possible, they are all children for all of us…. Nowdays people just come – alright postpone exams”. The Chief Justice said, “as matter of principle we will not reschedule. 2 lac students and 4 lac parents will suffer. At behest of 5 petitioner will keep careers of 2 lacs students in jeopardy.” He also added, “also one thing (not for your client) we dont know who is behind these petitions”.

The Chief Justice said that authorities conduct such a large examinations as we live in extremenly diverse geographically, culturally nation. He also said the petitioner respresentative arguments are based on ideal solution but the society is complex to look upon.

Sanjay Hegde said that “centres are cut down from 1200 to 500, NEET UG matter effect the NEET PG exams”.

Sanjay Hegde argued, “prayer B is the consequence- it says 1 exam, beause you cut down centre. The 2 exams will be normalised…. “. The petitioner’s representative also mentioned the number of phone call and put the concerns of the candidates. He mentioned receiving 50,000 phone calls and also the normalisation issue that may arise out of 2 exams and 2 papers.

CJI DY Chandrachud said,  “we are not academicians”.

The petition representative argued to give some additional as ‘sometime a pause to do the work perfectly is a good thing”.

The bench dismissed the petition.
