Twice A Year Board Exam For Class 10 And 12 From The Academic Session 2025-26

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan informed about the option to appear twice a year in the board exams for the Class 10 and 12 students from the academic session 2025-26. The decision has been taken to reduce academic stress among the students, the education minister said.

The decision to conduct board exams twice has been envisioned in the National Education Policy (NEP), 2020, and the New Curriculum Framework (NCF) announced by the Ministry of Education. The decision will help students to get enough time to prepare well for the exam and the best score of the two will be considered. Notably, the twice-a-year board exams for Class 10 and 12 students are not mandatory and remain optional for students. However, he encouraged students to appear in both the exam and retain the best marks obtained.

Union Minister while addressing students present at the event also inquired about whether students were pleased with the decision.

Minister Pradhan informed about PM Narendra Modi’s vision to ensure a stress-free education for students, enrich the quality of education, connect them with culture, and prepare them for the future through NEP 2020.

Union Education Minister while at the launching event of PM SHRI (Prime Minister Schools for Rising India) Scheme in Chhattisgarh, informed about the decision in consonance with the key objectives of NEP to alleviate academic stress on the students. Currently board exams are being conducted at the end of the session annually.

Notably, NEP also spoke about semester-based examinations from Class 9 to 12. These four years will be converted to eight semesters, and what a student will study in 2 semesters will be summed up in two exams.
