The National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) invited applications from the institutions to transition from a 4-Year Integrated Programme (B.A. B.Ed. /B.Sc. B.Ed) to 4-Year Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP). This is a flagship program of NCTE under NEP 2020.
The 2024-25 session will be the last academic session for admission for the 4-year Integrated Programme and no fresh admissions shall be made in this course thereafter from the 2025-26 session, NCTE informs. However, the decision will not impact the existing session. The institutions recognized by NCTE to run the 4-year Integrated Programme (B.A. B.Ed. /B.Sc. The 4-year integrated teacher education program was notified in October 2021. The NCTE under the Ministry of Education devised the course to enable student-teachers to get a degree in education and specialization in subjects such as language, history, music, mathematics, computer science, economics, art, chemistry, and physical education.
The program aims at preparing teachers for foundational, preparatory, middle, and secondary stages (5+3+3+4) according to the National Education Policy 2020. This integrated course will benefit students by saving one year by completing the teacher training course in 4 years instead of the existing 5 years.
Notably, the admission to the course will be conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) through the National Common Entrance Test (NCTE).
ITEP will impart cutting-edge pedagogy and will establish a foundation in early childhood care and education (ECCE), foundational literacy and numeracy (FLN), and inclusive education. According to the NCTE, the course will contribute substantially to revitalizing the whole teacher education sector.
