The fourth phase of the Lok Sabha election is scheduled to be held on May 13. The Election Commission of India on Tuesday said that a total of 1,717 candidates from 10 states and Union Territories are in the fray.
The poll panel body has revealed that a total of 4,264 nominations were filed for 96 constituencies for phase 4 of the general election but after the scrutiny of all nominations filed. Out of the nominations filed, 1970 were found to be valid.
As per the official notification filed by the Election Commission, Telangana had a maximum of 1,488 nomination forms from 17 parliamentary constituencies, followed by Andhra Pradesh with 1,103 nominations from 25 seats in Phase 4. The Malkajgiri parliamentary constituency in Telangana has received a maximum of 177 notification forms, followed by 13- Nalgonda and 14- Bhongir in the same state with 144 nomination forms in each.
The average number of candidates in a parliamentary constituency for the phase is 18, the poll body said. The last date permitted for filing the nomination for phase 4 for all 10 states and union territories was April 25, 2024.
The ECI also directed all stated and Union Territories to ensure time-bound issuance of ‘No Dues certificate’ to intending candidates to be included in their affidavits.
In a move to facilitate intending candidates, Election Commission has directed all states and union territories to ensure that “No Dues Certificate” by all the concerned agencies/authorities/departments to intending candidates within 48 hours of the receipt of the request letter in case where dues are not pending or are not due by law, to provide details of dues accrued to such persons within 48 hours of submitting the application to the agencies and to issue No dues certificate within 24 hours of clearing of such dues, reports Business Standard.
