Chhattisgarh BJP President Arun Sao is contesting against Congress candidate Thaneshwar Sahu from Lormi constituency. He had to face a tough triangular contest in this rural constituency. Sahu being a potential candidate belonging to dominant OBC Sahu community had to face candidates of Congress and regional party Janata Congress Chhattisgarh(J). The BJP leader will contest against the Congress candidate Thaneshwar Sahu from Lormi constituency. But both of them will have to face JCC-J candidate Sagar Singh Bais, a local resident who is also on an aggressive campaign to retain the seat for his party.

Lormi is one among the four constituencies which has both the BJP and Congress candidates from the OBC Sahu community. Arun Sao is the current BJP president and he has won from the Bilaspur in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. He became the Chhattisgarh BJP president by replacing Vishnu Deo Sai in 2022.

Arun Sao has said that the BJP will sweep 15 out of 20 seats in the first phase of assembly election at Chhattisgarh, including eight out of 12 in the Baston region. He added that they will also win majority of the remaining 70 seats including Lormi while speaking to Times of India.

Arun Sao was born on November 25, 1968 in Raipur, Chhattisgarh. After completing his degree from Chhattisgarh university, he became a lawyer  by profession. Arun Sao’s political entry was in 1996 by joining the BJP youth wing, Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM). He then later became the state president the organization in 2000, says timesnow. He later also served as the secretary of the Sahu Samaj Youth Wing.

In 2019, after defeating Congress candidate Panna Lal Sahu by a margin over 160,000 votes, Arun Sao was elected to the 17th Lok Sabha Assembly. From 2013 to 2018, he served as the cabinet minister for Forest and Environment. In 2010, he was elected as a member of the Chhattisgarh Legislative assembly from Lormi constituency.
