Assembly Election 2023: BJP Is Having A Comfortable Lead In Madhya Pradesh

The latest trend in Madhya Pradesh election result shows that BJP is having a win. As per the official trends by the Election Commission of India, BJP is leading in 24 seats while Congress from 3. The latest results shows that the BJP have taken a comfortable lead in Madhya Pradesh.

Madhya Pradesh occupies the centre stage in the fierce battle between Congress and ruling BJP. The state has been under BJP rule since 2003, with Shivraj Singh Chouhan as Chief Minister. With his iron grip on the state, BJP won both major seat tallies and vote shares in the 2013 election.

During the 2018 assembly election, Madhya Pradesh faced a hung assembly with Congress finally kicking in as single largest party with Kamal Nath as Chief Minister. Congress won with the lead of 4 percentage vote shares. In 2020, several of MLAs of the Congress party defected the party and jointed BJP including Jyotiraditya Scindia, who has been serving as Congress member from 2001 to 2020. He is now serving as Union Minister of Civil Aviation and Steel.

Earlier, 2023 assembly election appears to be a little challenging for BJP and Shivraj Singh Chouhan as the anti-incumbent sentiment and his pro-Hindutva image is posing as a hinder in retaining his power. But with the current trend, BJP is confident in cementing its power in the state. Congress has used a different tactic in the state this year. The party have its bet on experienced leaders mixed with strong and popular regional faces.

Both BJP and Congress are focused on the OBC party if the state. While Congress promises to bring in caste census that would benefit the OBC voters, BJP sought to stick with Narendra Modi’s OBC background to appeal to the sentiment of the people.

Apart from BJP and Congress, other parties that tried to have their hold on Madhya Pradesh are Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), Gondwana Gantantra Party, Samajwadi party and AAM Aadmi Party (AAP). BSP has opted to side with Gondwana Gantantra Party targeting the reserved seats of the state. Samajwadi Party, which part is part of INDI Alliance would like to collaborate with Congress in the state.

The state went polling booths on November 17 and the election was conducted in a single phase for all the 230 assembly constituencies. According to the Chief Electoral Officer office of Madhya Pradesh, the state fielded 2533 candidates in total across various political parties and includes independent candidates.
