In the 2014 Jharkhand Assembly elections, Manoj Kumar Yadav of INC won this seat after defeating Umashankar Akela of BJP with a margin of 7,085 (4.06%) votes. INC had a vote share of 33.13% in 2014 in this seat.

In the 2009 Jharkhand Assembly elections, Umashankar Akela of BJP won the elections from Barhi seat defeating Manoj Yadav of INC by a margin of 8,085 (6.27%) votes. BJP had a vote share of 46.53% in 2009 in this seat.
