"BJP-RSS Spread Hatred Throughout Country": Rahul Gandhi In Violence-Hit Nuh

Leader of opposition Rahul Gandhi today visited poll-bound Haryana state, ramping up campaign in politically sensitive Nuh and Mahendragarh constituencies on the final day of the public campaign before the assembly elections on October 5. The poll drums have been sounding across Haryana as the state is going to witness a multi-polar contest, with the BJP, Congress, JJP, INLD, and AAP all expecting to confront stiff competition and are striving to woo voters in the final hours.

Rahul Gandhi’s arrival to Nuh for campaigning brings into the spotlight the violence that the district confronted in 2023, leading to the death of six people, including two home guards and a cleric. The communal violence left the state and the region in unrest and rioting. Rahul Gandhi  addressed the public in Haryana’s Nuh and Mahendragarh raising issues, including the hatred the saffron party allegedly sowed the seed.

Speaking at the event, the Congress leader stated that the people of BJP-RSS spread hatred throughout the country, asserting the need to eradicate hatred together.  “Because India is not a country of hatred but of love. We will not let hatred win in this country. Love, brotherhood and unity will win here,” Rahul Gandhi said.

“The lions and lionesses of the Congress Party fight the battle of ideology. You defeat hatred with love, so I want to thank you with all my heart. You give me strength, so I am not afraid of anyone,” Rahul Gandhi said, adding that the Congress do not want a Haryana of unemployment and inflation.

People of BJP-RSS spread hatred throughout the country. We have to eradicate hatred together, because India is not a country of hatred but of love. We will not let hatred win in this country. Love, brotherhood and unity will win here.

While the Congress decided to retain its sitting MLA in Huh, the BJP has fielded Shaba MLA Sanjay Singh. and the INLD Tahir Hussain, the son of former MLA Zakir Hussain. During the 2019 assembly elections, the saffron party had fielded Zakir Hussain from Nuh after he switched to the BJP.

The Congress Nuh MLA had accused the BJP of causing riots in the district due to the saffron party’s propagation of anti-social elements in the name of cow vigilantism. According to the MLA, the BJP created a fear psychosis, and the atmosphere was charged up, causing violence. Notably, nearly a third of the total 930 cases related to cow vigilantism registered in Haryana since 2021 are in Nuh district, leading to the four fatalities and 17 injuries. Though 1,437 people have been arrested in connection with the cow vigilantism, only five have seen convictions due to the alleged lack of evidence, according to a report by Hindustan Times.

A predominantly Muslim district, all three assembly constituencies from Nuh were won by Congress in 2019. This time, the Nuh Congress MLA has promised law against cow vigilantism and inquiry against the violence that rocked the district and adjacent areas in 2023.
