The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) released its first candidate list on Saturday. In the first list, the saffron party has fielded Kamaljeet Sehrawat as its candidate for the West Delhi constituency. 

The first announced list consists of 195 candidates. Kamaljeet Sehrawat was given the ticket to the Lok Sabha election by replacing the two-time MP Parvesh Verma from West Delhi. Being the Delhi BJP Secretary, Kamaljeet is a well-known face. She has been an active member of the saffron party.

Kamaljeet has earlier also served as the mayor of the South Delhi Municipal Corporation. She is also a councilor from Ward no.120 (Dwarka B) in the national capital and a member of the standing committee of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD). 

The BJP candidate trounced AAP’s Sushama Bansal in the Dwarka-B ward by a record margin of 9,866 votes, the highest in the entire polls. Ms.Sehrawat polled 14,613 while Bansal could only get 4,747 votes. She scored a massive victory with a big poll difference. 

Kamaljeet became the mayor of the South Delhi municipal corporation without any opposition.

Kamaljeet has previously contested the election from the Matiala assembly seat of West Delhi. She held other positions including the presidential post of the BJP Delhi Mahila Morcha and the vice-presidential post of Delhi Pradesh BJP. 

As for the educational qualifications of the candidate, Kamaljeet holds B.Com and M.Com degrees and holds a B.Ed degree as well as a degree in Computer application. 

Kamaljeet is always seen in the front row participating in demonstrations and protests held by the party.

After being announced as the party candidate, Kamaljeet said that it is a huge responsibility. “I did not expect that, this is a big surprise for me. I have been given this huge responsibility. I would like to thank PM Narendra Modi and BJP National president JP Nadda for giving me the opportunity,” she said.
