Gopal Jee Thakur has been associated with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for almost four decades now. From Pachayat President to the Member of Parliament, he has represented the party in many roles. The Ph.D holder is the current MP of Bihar”s Darbhanga constituency. BJP once again chose Thakur as the candidate from the Darbhanga constituency for the 2024 Lok Sabha election.

Thakur became the Panchayat President of the village Parri in 1990. He became the General Secretary of the Kishan Morcha of BJP in the Darbhanga district in 1994. Thakur served as the Member of Bihar Legislative Assembly from 2010 to 2015. He also served as the President of BJP Bihar from 2017 to 2019. During the 2019 Lok Sabha election, he elected as the Darbhanga MP. Thakur clinched victory in 2019 by defeating RJD”s powerful candidate Abdul Bari Siddiqui. He became the Special Invitee member if the BJP”s National Executive Committee in 2021.

In March this year, Thakur surrendered to the MP-MLA court of the Darbhanga Civil Court, as the court has issued summon against him. The summon was against a criminal case. The case was charged for protesting against transfer of four statues of Buddha that was preserved in Chandradhari Museum to Patna Museum. The case filed in 2013, by the then police inspector Vidyanand Rai. He filed case against 150-200 unknown people protesting including the Thakur. The court cognized the case against a total of 12 accused. Gopal Jee Thakur was also among the 12. However, he got bail after surrendering.
