Rajesh Agarwal, the BJP candidate is challenging the Congress leader and Chhattisgarh Deputy Chief minister T S Singh Deo from Ambikapur constituency. Chhattisgarh state assembly polls were held in two phases on November 7 and 17 this year.

The Ambikapur constituency witnessed a tough campaign between the two major parties- BJP and Congress. Meanwhile, TS Sing Deo won from the constituency during 2008, 2013 and 2018 assembly elections.

Rajesh Agarwal is a well-known businessman and member of the BJP’s Surguja district executive committee. Agarwal joined BJP by quitting Congress in 2018. Being a well-known businessman served as an advantageous point for BJP as he holds a good support base among the business community.

Rajesh entered to politics in 2018 after joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).  He was initially the member of the BJP’s Surguja district executive committee. In 2023, he was chosen by the party to contest election from Ambikapur constituency. The BJP candidate’s name was revealed in the fourth and final list of candidates.

Mr Agarwal is from Lakhanpur district and he has marked his presence in Ambikapur constituency. But as the constituency being a traditional vote bank for Congress, it is uncertain how much Agrawal was able to make a change in the vote bank.

Agarwal campaigned in the constituency mainly pointing out the not full-filled promises of the Congress, which includes unemployment allowance to the youth, loan wave-off assurance to ‘Mahila Swayam Sahayata Samhu’ and the increment of pension from 350 to 1000. But Agarwal was confident in his seat as he said he will emerge victorious as he and his party workers has always raised demands of people through protests, says latestly. Meanwhile, last time BJP won the seat in Ambikapur was in 2003 when the it fielded Kamal Bhan Singh against Congress Madan Gopal Singh.
