The BJP incumbent MLA was leading during the initial hours of counting votes, and the Congress’ Akram Khan has now overtaken Kanwar Pal.
However, the BJP has emerged victorious in the state, securing 48 seats while the Congress trailed behind with 37 seats. The saffron party managed to secure a comfortable victory – beyond the numbers it received during the last assembly elections – much to the surprise of the Congress. The gran old party had hope to wrest back the state after a decades and the exit polls had also suggested a Congress waves in the state, especially given the anti-incumbency which was prevalent in the state.
The Congress has alleged EVM issues and unfair practices while refusing to accept the result.
