The Indian National Congress fielded Rajendra Malviya in Dewas-Shajapur Lok Sabha constituency of Madhya Pradesh. The Dewas-Shajapur is an important seat of Ujjain division. Rajendra is the son of late Congress president of Madhya Pradesh, Radhakishan Malviya.
Rajendra has contested in the assembly election twice. He was given ticket from Indore district, his native place. During his second election, he contested from Tarana of Ujjain district. Duiring both election, Rajendra faced defeat. However, Congress once again place hope in Malviya, and fileds him from one of the important constituencies of Madhya Pradesh in the upcoming Lok Sabha election.
The Dewas constituency was formed as a part of 2008 delimitation of Parliamentary constituency. After the delimitation, the Shajapur constituency cease to exist and Dewas constituency formed.
It belongs to the Scheduled castes and cover Sehore, Shajapur, Agar Malwa, and Dewas districts. When the constituency was the part of Ujjain parliamentary seat, BJP’s Hukumchand Kachhaway was the MP.
When Dewas constituency came under Indore Lok Sabha seat, Prakash Chandra Sethi was the Member of the Parliament. Sethi was a Congress candidate.
The constituency usually had candidates out of Dewas. Be it Kachhaway, Sethi or Phoolchand Verma, Thaawarchand Gehlot, and Manohar Untwal, who later took charge of the constituency were also from Dewas, were also not from Dewas.
