Congress’ Manoj Moothedan Wins Perumbavoor With Massive Margin
In one of the most stunning and emphatic results of the 2026 Kerala Assembly elections, the Perumbavoor constituency delivered a clear and thunderous mandate in favour of the United Democratic Front (UDF). What was once considered a tightly contested seat turned into a one-sided electoral wave, as the counting process concluded with a decisive outcome.
Manoj Moothedan of the Indian National Congress has won the Perumbavoor Assembly seat with a landslide margin of 28,434 votes, defeating Basil Paul of the Kerala Congress (M). The result was officially declared after the completion of all 15 rounds of counting, confirming one of the biggest victories in the region. The scale of the margin is particularly striking in a constituency like Perumbavoor, which has historically witnessed close and competitive contests.
This time, however, the electorate delivered a decisive verdict, signalling a strong consolidation of support for the Congress candidate across urban, semi-urban, and industrial pockets of the constituency. By the halfway mark, the trend had already begun to indicate a clear victory, and as counting progressed, the margin only widened further, leaving little scope for a comeback by the opposition.
Perumbavoor, known for its working-class population, migrant labour presence, and trade-driven economy, often votes based on practical concerns such as employment, wages, housing, and infrastructure. The magnitude of this victory suggests that the Congress campaign resonated strongly with these ground realities, translating into widespread electoral support. Manoj Moothedan’s campaign is believed to have benefited from consistent grassroots outreach, local engagement, and a focus on everyday governance issues.
