The result confirmed the victory of Saji Cherian of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), who defeated Congress candidate Adv. Abi Kuriakose by a margin of 10,292 votes.
The counting process in constituency number 110 progressed smoothly throughout the day, with early trends quickly indicating an advantage for the CPI(M) candidate. As the rounds advanced, Saji Cherian maintained a steady and comfortable lead, gradually widening the gap and ensuring a firm grip on the contest well before the final declaration.

Saji Cherian, a prominent CPI(M) leader and former state minister, is known for his active role in public administration and political leadership in Kerala. His strong organisational base and consistent presence in the constituency played a key role in consolidating support across different segments of voters. The final result further strengthens his position and influence in Chengannur politics.
On the other hand, Adv. Abi Kuriakose of the Indian National Congress put up a determined challenge, backed by a focused campaign and strong efforts from UDF workers. Despite maintaining competitiveness in certain phases of the counting process, he was unable to close the gap as the CPI(M) candidate maintained a consistent lead throughout.

Chengannur, a constituency known for its politically engaged electorate and competitive electoral history, once again witnessed a closely observed contest between the two major fronts. However, the 2026 verdict leaned clearly in favour of the Left Democratic Front, reflecting strong voter support for the CPI(M) candidate.
From the early rounds itself, party workers and observers tracked the shifting numbers closely, but by the midway stage of counting, it became evident that Saji Cherian had established a decisive advantage. The final declaration after 17/17 rounds only confirmed the trend that had already taken shape during the earlier stages.
Election officials confirmed that the counting process was conducted in a transparent and orderly manner, with all procedures followed strictly as per guidelines. The result was officially announced after verification of all rounds, with no major disruptions reported.
Political observers note that the margin of 10,292 votes reflects a solid mandate in favour of Saji Cherian, indicating sustained voter confidence in his leadership and the CPI(M)’s organisational strength in the constituency. The outcome is also expected to influence broader political discussions in the region, particularly regarding voter alignment and constituency-level dynamics.
With this victory, Saji Cherian reinforces CPI(M)’s hold over Chengannur, marking an important win in the 2026 Kerala Assembly elections and further strengthening his political position in the constituency.
