Senior Congress leader Kunduru Jana Reddy”s son, Kunduru Raghuveer, has been nominated from the Nalgonda Lok Sabha constituency by the Indian National Congress (INC).

Nalgonda Lok Sabha constituency comprises the legislative assemblies of Devarakonda (ST reserved), Nagarjuna Sagar, Miryalaguda, Huzurnagar, Kodad, and Suryapet. Since 2009,

Congress has maintained its stronghold over the seat. Congress’ Gutha Sukender Reddy held the seat till 2014, when he won 4.7 lakh votes. In 2019, the party nominated Uttam Kumar Reddy for the seat, who secured victory with 5.2 lakh votes, while Bharat Rashtra Samithi, or BRS (former Telangana Rashtra Samithi), member Vemireddy Narasimha Reddy secured 5 lakh votes.

In the upcoming elections, the party has nominated Raghuveer as their candidate from Nalgonda. He comes from a family of politicians. His father, K. Jana Reddy, was the leader of the opposition in the first Telangana Assembly. He also served as the Minister of Panchayat Raj and Water Supply in Andhra Pradesh from 2009 to 2014. Raghuveer’s brother, K. Jaiveer Reddy, currently represents the Nagarjunasagar segment in the Telangana assembly.

The Nalgonda Lok Sabha constituency has around 17.5 percent Scheduled Caste (SC) voters and 15.5 percent Scheduled Tribes (ST) voters, as per the 2011 census. There are also around 7.1 percent Muslim voters in the constituency. Congress candidate Uttam Kumar Reddy is the sitting MP of Nalgonda after winning with a huge margin of 25,682 votes.

In the 2019 elections, out of 17 Lok Sabha seats in the state, the Congress bagged three in the polls. The BRS had won nine seats, while the BJP secured four. The AIMIM had retained Hyderabad.
