CPI’s Muhammed Muhassin Retains Sitting Pattambi Constituency For Third Time

In a closely watched and politically intense contest, the Pattambi Assembly constituency delivered a decisive yet hard-fought verdict in the 2026 Kerala Assembly elections, reaffirming the strength of the Left in a constituency known for its competitive electoral history.

Muhammed Muhassin of the Communist Party of India has secured victory with a margin of 9,442 votes, defeating T. P. Shaji of the Indian National Congress. The result was officially declared after the completion of all 15 rounds of counting, confirming a strong performance by the Left Democratic Front (LDF) in the constituency.

From the very first rounds of counting, Muhammed Muhassin maintained a steady and controlled lead, carefully building momentum as the rounds progressed. While the Congress candidate kept the contest competitive in the early stages, the gap gradually widened, signalling a firm grip by the CPI candidate over the electorate.

Pattambi, located in Palakkad district, has long been regarded as a politically vibrant and unpredictable constituency, where voter sentiment often shifts based on local issues, candidate appeal, and broader political currents. The 2026 result once again reflected this dynamic nature, with a spirited contest that ultimately tilted in favour of the Left.

Muhammed Muhassin’s victory is seen as a result of consistent grassroots engagement and a campaign that effectively addressed local concerns such as development, welfare delivery, and livelihood issues. His ability to retain voter confidence across different sections of the constituency played a crucial role in securing this win. On the other side, T. P. Shaji of the Congress mounted a strong challenge, ensuring that the contest remained competitive through multiple rounds. However, despite sustained efforts, the campaign was unable to close the gap created by the CPI candidate, leading to a clear but hard-earned victory for the Left.

Political observers note that the margin of over nine thousand votes, while decisive, also reflects the competitive nature of the constituency, where opposition presence remains strong and future contests are likely to remain closely fought. The counting process in Pattambi was conducted smoothly, with officials ensuring transparency and accuracy across all stages. Party workers and supporters from both camps closely followed each round, adding to the charged atmosphere surrounding the result.

With this victory, Muhammed Muhassin has successfully retained Pattambi for the CPI, reinforcing the LDF’s position in the region. The result not only highlights the party’s organizational strength but also underscores the continued trust placed in its leadership by the voters of Pattambi.
