The Congress nominated the sitting MP DK Suresh from Bengaluru Rural Lok Sabha constituency when it announced its candidate list for the Lok Sabha elections 2024. Born in Ramanagara in the state of Karnataka in 1966, the 12th pass Suresh works as a businessman. The 57-year-old politician has an asset worth Rs 338 crore, as per his affidavit. Notably, D. K Suresh is the sole Congress candidate to win the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from Karnataka.

Mr Suresh is the younger brother of Deputy Chief Minister D.K Shivakumar. He was first elected to the Lok Sabha in the 2013 by-election, and secured victory in his debut against JD(S)’s Anitha Kumaraswamy, gaining more than one lakh majority. During the 2014 general elections, Mr Suresh was re-elected with a bigger margin, securing 2,31,480 votes majority against the BJP candidate Muniraju Gowda P.

During the 2019 Lok Saba elections, he was re-elected again and secured a majority of 2,06,870, a slight drop from the 2014 general elections. The BJP, however increased its vote share from 4,21,243 in 2014 to 671,388 in 2019. Notably, the BJP had fielded noted cardiologist C. N. Manjunath, the son-in-law of the JD(S) stalwart and former Prime Minister H D Deva Gowda.

The challenges posed by the BJP-JD(S) combined efforts and the potential anti-incumbency to the sitting Congress MP have been discussed in the political corner. Currently, the Congress party is representing the majority of the eight legislative segments of the Bengaluru rural Lok Sabha constituency. However, the Congress has exhibited its trust in DK Suresh who was the sole victorious Congress candidate in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from Karnataka.
