In Hisar assembly constituency, Independent candidate Savitri Jindal won the election. She won the election by defeating Indian National Congress’ Ram Niwas Rara with the margin of 18, 941 votes. The sitting MLA, Kamal Gupta of BJP was pushed back to third position.

Hisar assembly constituency is located in the Hisar district of Haryana. While it was under the clasp of Congress from 2000 to 2009, the Bharatiya Janata Party took up the seat from 2014 onward.

This year, the major players were BJP’s Kamal Gupta, who has been in the seat since 2014. Indian National Congress’ Ran Biwas Rara, and Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) Sanjay Satrodia. There are also two independent candidates giving a tough competition to the other, Savitri Jindal, and Gautam Sardana.

Notably, Savitri Jindal held the Hisar set from 2005 to 2013 on Congress ticket. She was dethroned by Kamal Gupta in 2014. Savitri decided to run independently after BJP nominated Gupta. Her son Naveen Jindal is contesting on a BJP ticket form the Kurukshetra constituency.
