Mian Mehar Ali, the son of National Conference senior leader Mian Altaf Ahmad Larvi, has won the election with 28,907 votes defeating Syed Jamat Ali Shah of the Jammu & Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party who secured 25,088 votes in the Jammu and Kashmir assembly election 2024 in the Kangan (ST). Atta Mohammad Khatana of the Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party trailed behind with 718 votes.
Mian Mehar Ali’s entry into politics marks the fourth generation of the Mian family’s legacy in public service. His nomination was submitted to the Returning Officer accompanied by National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah who expressed confidence in Mehar’s victory. Omar Abdullah believes that Mehar will follow in his family’s footsteps and serve the people of Kangan upholding the high standards set by his father and ancestors. The National Conference is looking to strengthen its presence in the Kangan Assembly constituency with Mehar’s victory.
