The Jammu and Kashmir election results will be announced on Tuesday, October 8. These elections, taking place after the state’s bifurcation into two union territories – Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, as well as the abrogation of Article 370, are significant for both the BJP and the INDIA alliance.
The campaign largely revolved around these key issues along with the demands for statehood. The INDIA bloc, comprising the National Conference (NC), Congress, and CPI (M), faces two major groupings in both the Valley and Jammu. In Kashmir, the INDIA alliance is contesting against the PDP and several independents, while in the Jammu region, the main contest is between Congress and the PDP.
The election is also considered as a litmus test for BJP, after Centre’s revocation of special status to erstwhile state. The party has placed candidates majorly in Jammu region, hoping that their development narrative, the 2022 delimitation exercise, and their reservation strategies in Pir Panjal region work in their favour.
