Three-time MP Nishikant Dubey is once again fielded as the BJP candidate from Jharkhand’s Godda Lok Sabha constituency. The veteran leader who was listed in the first list of candidates of BJP grabbed the spotlight through his speeches defending the government in the parliament.
It was Nishikant Dubey who in 2023 led the call to investigate Trinamool Congress leader Mahua Moitra on allegations that she had taken bribes in exchange for criticizing the government. And later the Parliamentary Ethics Committee found her guilty and was expelled from the Lok Sabha.
Born on January 28, 1969, Dubey hails from the village of Bhagalpur in Bihar. As for his educational qualification, the firebrand leader is a graduate of Marwari College in Bhagalpur and has also completed MBA and took PhD in Management from Pratap University in Rajasthan’s Jaipur. His political career began during his student days. He was a member of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, the student wing of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).
Dubey has served as the director at the Essar Group. He then joined the politics in 2009. The BJP leader in BJP ticket contested the election in Godda and defeated Congress candidate Furkan Ansari in 2009.
He continued his victory saga in 2014. When BJP swept 12 out of 14 seats in Jharkhand, Dubey added his contribution by defeating Pratap Yadav of Jharkhand Vikas Morcha, the party which later merged with BJP in 2020.
He taking his authoritarian power in 2022, along with his BJP colleague Manoj Tiwari allegedly forced the Air Traffic Control officials at Deoghar Airport to give clearance for taking off during no-fly time. For his action, an FIR was filed against him which was later ultimately squashed by Jharkhand High Court in 2023.
