Jugal Kishore Sharma is fielded as the BJP candidate from the Jammu constituency. Jugal is featured among the first list of 195 candidates announced by the BJP for the 2024 Lok Sabha election.
The veteran leader was a member of the Lok Sabha after winning the 2014 general election in Jammu and Kashmir. The BJP has thus decided to hold on to its old guard in the Jammu region. This is the third consecutive time the leaders have been fielded.
The union territory of Jammu and Kashmir has five Lok Sabha seats, three in Kashmir Valley and two in Jammu.
In the 2019 general elections, the sitting MP from the Jammu constituency, Jugal defeated Congress Raman Bhalla and in 2014, he defeated Congress candidate Madan Lal Sharma. The BJP leader secured 8,58,066 votes in 2019 while in 2014 he got 6,19,995 votes.
As Jugal has outperformed in the last two elections, the BJP has taken his name in the first list as its strategy to put pressure on the opposition. Jugal after being selected as the candidate from Jammu said that BJP will work for the public with more dedication and “work towards making Modi ji the PM for the third time”.
Ever since he took his initial steps in politics as a BJP leader, his political graph has been on an upward trend. Jugal has served as a Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) worker. The two-time MLA from Nagrota before becoming the president of Jammu and Kashmir unit of the BJP in 2012, luck has always been a constant partner of Jugal.
Jammu constituency is one of the five Lok Sabha constituencies in Jammu and Kashmir union territory in northern India. Jammu was created in 1967.
