Keralam To Vote On April 9 As ECI Announces Assembly Poll Dates
The Election Commission of India on Sunday announced the schedule for the 2026 Assembly elections in five regions — Keralam, Tamil Nadu, Assam, West Bengal and the Union Territory of Puducherry.
The announcement was made during a press conference held by Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar in New Delhi.
According to the poll schedule, Keralam, Assam and Puducherry will vote in a single phase on April 9, while Tamil Nadu will go to polls on April 23.
The politically sensitive state of West Bengal will vote in two phases on April 23 and April 29.
The counting of votes for all the states and the Union Territory will take place on May 4, the Election Commission said.
The elections are being conducted as the terms of the current legislative assemblies in these regions are set to end in May and June this year.

ECI To Announce Poll Dates Today: Assembly Elections In 5 States, Press Meet At 4 PM
Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar said the commission is committed to conducting free, fair and transparent elections. He added that lakhs of election officials and security personnel will be deployed across the country during the polling process.
The Election Commission also announced that around 2.18 lakh polling stations will be set up across the five regions, including around 80,000 polling stations in West Bengal alone.
Officials said special facilities will be provided at polling booths, including drinking water, toilets, ramps for persons with disabilities, wheelchairs, proper lighting and help desks to assist voters, especially senior citizens.
The poll panel also stressed that no eligible voter should be excluded and no ineligible person should be included in the electoral rolls, in line with constitutional provisions.
