Many instances of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) malfunction, rigging and slow voting are being reported across the states where phase 6 Lok Sabha elections are being held. Opposition parties have come up requesting the Election Commission to look into the matter and take immediate action.

CPI(M) leader Brinda Karat being unable to cast the vote due to the system failure at a polling booth in St Thomas School Delhi, said to PTI, “They are saying that machine’s battery is down. Imagine what’s the condition of the Election Commission. I have written a complaint”.

Similar incident was reported in Puri Lok Sabha constituency. The BJP candidate, Sambit Patra who is contesting the election has filed a complaint against the EVM machine of that booth. He said, “They are saying that machine’s battery is down. Imagine what’s the condition of the Election Commission. I have written a complaint,” reports ABP news.

However, responding to the claims of the BJP candidate, the District Election Officer from Puri clarifying wrote on X that the general allegation made regarding nonfunctioning of EVMs in Puri & the allegation that those are sponsored are incorrect & baseless. “In Booth No 77 of 107 Puri AC, mock poll was conducted in presence of Polling agents,” he wrote.

Meanwhile, in Kurukshetra Lok Sabha constituency of Haryana, an 87-year-old who has come to vote for Jhaadu was forced to vote for the symbol lotus.

Another instance of a police raid was reported in the house of SP’s winning Ambedkar Nagar candidate Lalji Verma in order to tarnish the name. Sharing the video of police on the premises, SP Chief Akhilesh Yadav wrote on X, “…the police was not supposed to find anything and they did not find anything. This is an attempt to tarnish the honest image of Shri Lalji Verma. Highly condemnable!”

Delhi minister Atishi wrote on X, “Worrying news coming from different parts of Delhi… In Captain Anuj Nayyar School in Janakpuri, the Presiding Officer tried to get the Polling Agents to sign the Form 17(C) in the morning itself In Govt School No.3 Kalkaji, an Election Officer has just come and given directions that Polling Agents cannot note down any data.”

Another user has shared a video of massive rigging being carried out in Nandigram.
