Former Union minister and Congress leader Milind Deora announced his resignation from the primary membership of the Congress party today (Sunday). This marks an end to his family’s 55-year-old association with Congress. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Milind Deora said that he tendered his resignation from the primary membership of the party “Today marks the conclusion of a significant chapter in my political journey. However, there were assumptions that Deora would join the Maharashtra chief minister Shinde-led Shiv Sena faction. But the former congress leader had Yesterday rejected the speculations terming them “rumours.”

“I am listening to my supporters…Haven”t taken a decision yet,” Deora told the reporter when asked about his plan, adding that he was holding discussions with his supporters.

Deora had also urged the alliance member to retreat from making claims and counterclaims since the seat-sharing talks were not finalised.

The Shiv Sena (UBT) faction, an INDIA bloc partner had staked a claim for the Mumbai South constituency for the imminent general election, which was represented by Deora before 2014. He was also the runner-up in the subsequent general elections from the constituency.

Milind Deora is the son of Congress veteran Murali Deora and he had won the Mumbai South seat in 2004 and 2009. In the 2014 and 2019 general elections, Deora ended up as the first runner-up against the undivided Shiv Sena leader Arvind Sawant.
