MP Abdussamad Samadani is a member of Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) and sitting MP representing Malappuram constituency. In the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, he will be contesting the elections as an IUML nominee in the Ponnani parliamentary constituency. Samadani holds the position of the National Senior Vice President of the Muslim League.

In the bye-election to Malappuram Lok Sabha seat on 2021, he emerged as the winner defeating VP Sanu of the CPI(M) for a margin of 1,14,692 votes. NDA candidate AP Abdullahkutty was placed in the third position. During the period 2011-16, he also served as a legislator representing Kottakkal in the Kerala Legislative Assembly. He was a two-time Rajya Sabha member (1994-2000, 2000-06).

Abdussamad Samadani held positions including Convener of Parliamentary Sub-Committee on Universities and Higher Education and Member of Central Advisory Board of Education, Government of India. During the course of different periods, Abdussamad Samadani worked as a member of several parliamentary committees including Defence, Subordinate Legislation, Human Resource Development, and Health and Family Welfare. Besides, he has also worked as a member of Kerala Sahitya Academy and Kerala Kalamandalam.

Aside from being a politician, Samadani made remarkable contributions as a thinker, orator and writer as well. He received Doctorate from Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi. A polyglot, Samadani knows multiple languages including Malayalam, English, Urdu, Hindi, Arabic, Persian and Sanskrit. For his literary contributions, he has received numerous awards including SK Pottekkatt Award, Vaikom Muhammad Basheer Award, and Muhammad Abdurrahman Sahib Award.
