BJP’s Nayab Singh Saini took oath as chief minister of Haryana for the second consecutive term today, October 17. The guests for the ceremony held in Panchkula include Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Union Ministers Rajnath Singh and Nitin Gadkari, and former Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, along with chief ministers and their deputies from BJP-ruled states.
Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatreya administered the oath to Saini.
Defying the predictions, the saffron party emerged victorious for the third consecutive term in Haryana, securing 48 seats in the 90-member assembly house. The analyst and exit polls had forecast a conformable victory for the Congress party, and the grand old party could win 37 seats while the INLD received two and the independents three.

Notably, there were chatters regarding multiple chief minister claimants as some senior members, including the seventh term MLA, Anil Vij, indicated his wish to helm the state. The BJP had, however, maintained that Saini would remain as its chief ministerial candidate.
Shorting before the ceremony, the chief minister visited Valmiki’s temple at Panchkula and paid respects at the feet of Lord Valmiki. “It is my good fortune that before the swearing-in ceremony today, on the occasion of Lord Valmiki’s birth anniversary, I have got the opportunity to pay my respects at the feet of Lord Valmiki. I extend my heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to all the people of the state on his birth anniversary.”
Saini also said he took pledge to ensure equal development of all with the mantra of Sabka Sath, Sabka Vikas and with the spirit of Haryana Ek, Haryanvi Ek after before the oath-taking ceremony. “With the blessings of Maharishi Valmiki, this society today is playing an important role in developing Haryana with non-stop development,” the chief minister wrote in an X post.
Minutes before the oath taking ceremony, the Supreme Court refused to entertain a plea that sought to stall the oath taking ceremony. While hearing the plea, a bench, comprising Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, said the Court may impose costs on the petitioner for filing such a plea. The Court asked the if the petitioner want it stall the oath taking of an elected government.
