Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his Kerala visit today (Tuesday) took a swipe at the Left alliance and the Congress in the State. While addressing a rally in Thiruvananthapuram, Prime Minister said that both parties were enemies in Kerala but were “BFFs” outside.

Aiming the Communist parties and the Congress, Prime Minister said: “In Kerala, they are each other’s enemies but outside Kerala, they are BFFs- Best Friend Forever. . . friends who sit and have tea and biscuits together,” News18 reports.

Both parties are part of the Opposition led-INDIA alliance in the Centre, but in Kerala, they are rivals in political front. In the state, Congress is part of the coalition alliance United Democratic Front (UDF), and Communist parties are part of the Left Democratic Front (LDF).

As Communist Party of India (CPI), one of the coalition partner in LDF, announced Annie Raja“s candidacy in Wayanad for upcoming Lok Sabha elections where Rahul Gandhi is the sitting MP, Modi took a dig at both parties and stated: “The Left and the Congress accuse each other of corruption. The Left parties now want the Congress Yuvraj[crown prince] to leave Wayanad,” Times of India quotes as he is saying.

Continuing further, Prime Minister said that the Congress accused Communist Chief Minister (Pinarayi Vijayan) of being involved in corruption and scams and called the Left government as fascist. In response, the Communists lathi-charged Congress workers and described their previous administrations as being indulged in several scams. Pointing out the incongruity Modi said, however, outside Kerala, at the INDIA alliance meetings, these parties sit together, eat samosas, and biscuits, and have tea.

“So in Thiruvananthapuram they say one thing and in Delhi they say something else. The people of Kerala will answer this betrayal in the coming Lok Sabha polls,” Modi said. He then requested the people of Kerala to bless the saffron party with seats in double digits in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. “It is my guarantee to make all possible efforts to realise the dreams and expectations of Kerala”, Prime Minister stressed.

His speech was part of the concluding ceremony of the (BJP)”s state unit”s padayatra at the Central Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram. In the meeting, National Democratic Alliance (NDA) informally launched the BJP’s election campaign with the slogans “Modiyude guarantee” (Modi”s guarantee) and “A vote for Modi.”
