The dates of Assembly poll elections in five states- Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Telangana and Mizoram will be announced between October 8 and 10, reports India Today. The voting to these states are likely to be held in between mid-November and first week of December.
As per the report, election will be held in two phases in Chhattisgarh while Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Mizoram and Telangana will vote in a single phase. The results of the election will be announced around December 10.
The ruling Mizoram National Front (MNF) announced the names of candidates who would be contesting 40 assemble seats on Wednesday. MNF ally of BJP has given the names of two women and 15 new faces as the candidate for the election. While the term of legislative assemblies of Telangana will end on December 17, this year. And in other four states, the terms will end in the month of January next year.
Ahead of announcing the election dates, the Election Commissioner (EC) called out a meeting to streamline the election process and also to ensure that mode of conduct is implemented effectively. EC has also directed law enforcement directorate agencies and banks to check digital payments and monitor transport of money via unscheduled chartered flights during the elections.
The K-Chandrasekhar Rao led Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) rules Telangana while Madhya Pradesh is ruled by the BJP. Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan have Congress governments.
The poll body conducted a meeting on Friday to finalise the strategy for the smooth conduct of the elections. The Commission has so far taken stock of poll preparedness in Rajasthan, Mizoram, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. It is concluding its visit to Telangana on Thursday. The fixed poll-election dates of the five states will be announced in the coming days.
