Rajasthan Election Results: INC candidate Amit Chachan Wins Nohar Assembly

Indian National Congress (INC) candidate Amit Chachan won the Nohar constituency in the assembly election held on November 25. He was seeking re-election from his constituency as he was the incumbent representative. He secured 103623 votes to win against a narrow 102728 acquired by the BJP candidate Abhishek Matoria. Communist Party of India (Marxist)’s Mangej Choudhary got third place, securing 26824 votes.

Nohar in the Hanumangarh district of Rajasthan is a part of the Churu Lok Sabha constituency with a predominantly rural population. Rural voters constitute a significant 85.89% of the population, while urban voters make up 14.11%, according to the 2011 Census. The 2018 elections too were a confrontation between  Congress”s Amit Chachan and BJP”s Abhishek Matoria. With 46.05% of the vote (93,851 votes), Chachan had won. Matoria came in second with 80,124 votes (39.31% of the total). Notably, Matoria”s vote share witnessed a significant drop from 2013 when he garnered 51.69% of the votes where he triumphed by a substantial margin of 26,951 votes. The INC has won the seat six times since 1951, while the BJP and Janta Dal have each won two times.

However, Rajasthan recorded a voter turnout of 75.45%, in the assembly elections held across 199 of 200 assembly constituencies on November 25. According to the final reports, out of the total 199 seats in the state, the BJP wrested power from the Congress with a clear majority and emerged victorious in the state. BJP won a majority with 115 seats and the Congress came second, securing 69 seats. Along with Rajasthan, the Assembly elections were held in four other states including Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, Chhattisgarh and Mizoram. Results of these states are also announced, with BJP becoming victorious in three states – Madhyapradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh, and Congress taking Telangana.
