
Rajasthan Election Results: INC’s Sohan Lal Nayak Wins Raisinghnagar (SC) Assembly
Defeating the incumbent Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Balveer Singh Luthra, Sohan Lal Nayak of Indian National Congress (INC) won the Raisinghnagar constituency. Securing 79,586 votes against 65,561 votes gained by Balveer Singh Luthra, Sohan Lal Nayak emerged victorious in the constituency in the assembly election held on November 25.
Raisinghnagar is a key constituency situated in the Ganganagar district in Rajasthan. Rural voters dominate the landscape of the constituency, constituting approximately 86.54%, while urban voters make up the remaining 13.46%, as per the 2011 Census.
Balveer Singh Luthra of the BJP won the 2018 elections with 37.98% of the total votes (76,935 votes), defeating Shyopat Ram of the CPI(M), who received 21.36% (43,264 votes). Balveer Singh had made a comeback with this, especially from his 2013 loss in which he received 36.78% of the vote and finished second to Sona Devi of National Unionist Zamindara Party (NUZP). Sona Devi, the Congress candidate, trailed behind in 2018 with only 15.45% of the total votes, making her fourth in the vote share of the constituency. Sona Devi had won in 2013 as a member of the NUZP. Since 1980, Raisinghnagar has seen a variety of political representation. INC”s Dula Ram remains the only candidate to have secured the seat twice.
However, going by the latest reports, out of the total 199 seats in the state, the BJP wrested power from the Congress with a clear majority and emerged victorious in the state. BJP won a majority with 115 seats and the Congress came second, securing 69 seats. Along with Rajasthan, the Assembly elections were held in four other states including Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, Chhattisgarh and Mizoram. Results of these states are also announced, with BJP becoming victorious in three states – Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh, and Congress taking Telangana.
