Senior BJP leader and former union minister, Ravi Shankar Prasad filed nomination to contest from Bihar”s Patna Sahib Lok Sabha constituency. He is seeking to retain the constituency for the second consecutive term. During the 2019 Lok Sabha election, Prasad won the election by defeating Congress” actor turned politician Shatrughan Sinha. For the 2024 Lok Sabha election, Prasad will be contesting against Congress Anshul Avijit.

Prasad started his political career at a young age. He was a student leader under the leadership of Jayaprakash Narayan in the 1970s, organising protests against Indira Gandhi government. He was a Bharatiya Janata Party worker from the beginning. He as the National Vice President of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha, the youth wing of the BJP.

Prasad was elected to the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of the Parliament in 2000m during the Atal Bihari Vajpayee”s premiership. He served as the Minister of State, and was responsible for the coal and mining reforms, Law and Justice and Information and Broadcasting.

When Narendra Modi was elected as the Prime Minister, Prasad was appointed as the Minister of Law and Justice and Minister for Communication and Information Technology. Prasad was at the van guard of the cases that caused tumult in the nation including the Ayodhya debate, Rafale cases, and triple talaq case.

In 2016, Prasad denied Facebook permission for its Free Basic platform in India. He claimed that it was because the platform provided access to only a host of websites and services, while excluding the broader internet from its purview.
