“Shameless”: Rajdeep Sardesai On Attacks Against His Interview With Ashok Gehlot

“When bathroom singer became journalist”, the Pakistan former cricketer Danish Kaneria took the statement to his official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Saturday and criticized Rajdeep Sardesai’s recent viral interview with the Rajasthan Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Ashok Gehlot. Mr Gehlot was facing the State Legislative Assembly elections on November 25, Saturday, and Rajdeep Sardesai was accused from the opposition and many as he was trying to frame an emotional image of the CM ahead of the polls.

A snippet, less than a minute, of the original half-hour interview was taken to X by the author and columnist Abhishek Banerjee. In the video, the consulting editor and news anchor of India Today Television Rajdeep Sardesai was seen asking the Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot about Mr Gehlot’s interest in old Hindi songs. The act was criticized by Abhishek Banerjee, who wrote “Rajdeep sitting in private jet, singing songs to Rajasthan CM”.

Mr Banerjee said that this is a privilege given to Rajdeep Sardesai only and if someone would do the same with a BJP CM they will be criticised and tagged “godi media”. “Imagine then jokes, memes and taunts if a journalist did this to a BJP CM. But nobody will call Rajdeep as “godi media” Because Rajdeep has liberal privilege”, Mr Banerjee wrote.

The tweet be Mr Banerjee was shared by the former Pakistan cricketer Danish Kaneria, and to whom Rajdeep Sardesai replied through a re-tweet. “When a Pakistani spot fixer/match fixer becomes part of the Mysore Pak IT cell. Go get a life Danish Kaneria. Next time watch the full half hour interview, not the 60 seconds that your IT cell Chief tells you to tweet. Shameless”, wrote the journalist on X accusing the cricketer as he was carrying some propaganda behind the tweet.

The Rajasthan CM and Rajdeep sardesai were having a flight and in-between the interview Mr Sardesai was singing a song to the CM while asking a question. It was towards the end of the interview Mr Sardesai asked Ashok Gehlot that the former had heard that the CM takes interest in Hindi songs. The anchor asked critically that, “when Ashok ji is alone with family at home, not surrounded by anyone, what does he like to listen to?”. As answer the Chief Minister said that he likes listening to old songs.

Rajdeep Sardesai further clarified his question as he wants to know something what other’s do not know about Ashok Gehlot. And for that the minister said it was the same thing about music. Rajdeep Sardesai was framing some emotional and personal questions to the Congress leader, which the BJP accused as the anchor was painting an image for the CM ahead of the polling day.
