Telangana Assembly Election Results Today

Telangana along with Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh will declare assembly election results today. Telangana Assembly elections constituted the last of the semi-final series ahead of 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The 119 seats of the southern state went for polls in a first phase on November 30. And over 3 crore 26 lakh voters will decide the destiny of 2,290 candidates. The state witnessed a three-cornered contest between ruling Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), Congress and BJP. As KCR-led government looking for a third time, resurgent Congress is fighting tooth and nail to wrest power. Meanwhile, BJP has left no stone unturned to come in power.

In the election, BRS has put up candidates in all 119 seats, whereas Congress is fighting in 118 seats and gave one seat to its ally CPI. In an alliance, BJP and Pawan Kalyan-led Jana Sen Party (JPS) are contesting in 111 and 8 seats respectively. Besides, Asaduddin Owaisi-led AIMIM, a friendly ally to BRS ,is contesting in nine assembly segments in the Hyderabad city.

The prominent names in the fray include BRS President and Chief Minister of Telangana, K. Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR), his son and Industries minister KT Rama Rao (KTR), State Congress President A Revanth Reddy, and former BRS Minister and now BJP candidate Eatala Rajender, and BJP Lok Sabha member Bandi Sanjay Kumar among many others.

In 2018, BRS (then Telangana Rashtra Samithi) won 88 of the 119 seats, securing 46. 8 per cent of the vote share while Congress come distant second with 19 seats securing 28. 4 per cent vote share. The Telangana, the new state was formed by the bi-furcation of pre-existing state of Andhra Pradesh in 2014.
