The Sangareddy constituency witnessed the pause on the Reddy dominance when BRS’s Chinta Prabhakar won over the constituency. Chinta Prabhakar of BRS succeeded by garnering 83,112 votes and a margin of 8,217 votes. The second place is held by current MLA and INC candidate Turupu Jayaprakash Reddy with 74,895 votes. BJP’s Pulimamidi Raju is in third with 20,921 votes. The constituency witnessed the periodical shift from the Reddy dominance.
The Sangareddy constituency is one among the 5 constituencies in the Sangareddy district of the Telangana state. It is also part of the Medak Lok Sabha constituency. As the name suggests the constituencies has been a major dominance of the Reddy families. Tracing back to the elections of 1983 until now the involvement of the Reddy family members can be witnessed. Even without party supports the members from this specific family has able to win the constituency. Hence, the organisations have paid special attention in appointing candidates, in order to favour the majority and ultimately win the election.
From the constituency, during the elections of 1985 and 1989, the INC candidate P. Ramachandra Reddy had been able to succeed. Likely, during the 1994 election Ramachandra Reddy was pushed back by another Reddy member named K. Sadasiva Reddy of the Telangana Desam Party (TDP).
From 2004 election onwards Turupu Jayaprakash Reddy, popularly known as Jagga Reddy, has been a dominating and vital candidate from the constituency. Jagga Reddy, the current MLA and INC candidate has been able to succeed in the 2004, 2009 and 2018 elections from the constituency. During the 2004 elections Jagga Reddy was a TRS member and candidate. Later in the 2009 elections he has been the INC candidate and later a BJP candidate in 2014 Lok Sabha election. Finally in 2015 he joined back in INC and has been its major forerunner in the constituency.
In the 2014 assembly elections the INC candidate Jagga Reddy was pushed back by the TRS candidate Chinta Prabhakar by securing 82,860 votes, putting a pause on the Reddy dominance in the constituency. The TRS candidate Chinta succeeded by securing 29,522 votes more than Jagga Reddy from a total electors of 2,12,858.
Later in the previous election of 2018, Jagga Reddy came back on top gathering 76,572 votes, under the banner of INC. Chinta of TRS became the runner up by securing 73,983 votes. With the 2018 election, Jagga Reddy assured his membership in the assembly and Reddy dominance in the constituency.
Based on the latest reports, out of the total 119 seats, INC was leading with 61 seats and BRS was in second place with 33 seats. BJP is currently at the third position in the total seat share with only 8 seats in succeeding. Along with Telangana, the Assembly elections were held in four other states including Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Mizoram. The results of these states except Mizoram were announced on Sunday.
