BRS’s Koninty Manik Rao prevails in the Zahirabad constituency unlike the majority constituencies of Telangana. Koninty Rao, the BRS candidate and current MLA wins the constituency consecutively for a second time by securing 97,205 votes. While INC candidate, A. Chandrashekhar, came in second place garnering 84,415 votes with a margin difference of 12,790 votes. BJP’s Ramachander Rajanasimha came in third position with 13645 votes. The constituency is one of the few that showcased the consecutive dominance of BRS in Telangana.
Zahirabad constituency, is a reserved constituency for the Scheduled Caste (SC) since 2009 elections, out of the 19 similar constituencies. It is one among the five constituencies from the Sangareddy district of Telangana state. The constituency witnessed a change in wind favouring the TRS in 2018 elections.
In the 2014 assembly elections the INC candidate was Dr. Jetty Geeta who garnered 57,558 votes, just 842 votes more than the runner up candidate of TRS. The runner up candidate, Koninty Manik Rao was able to secure 56,716 votes from an electoral pool of 2,33,789. The Telangana Desam Party (TDP) candidate Y. Narotham came in third with 39,057 votes.
Later, in the 2018 assembly election the TRS and INC parties were represented by the same candidates as of 2014. However, as a change in tide, the TRS candidate Koninty won from the constituency by securing 96,598 votes. While the INC candidate and former MLA Dr. Geeta was only able to gather 62,125 votes. At the time the constituency consisted of 2,32,202 eligible voters.
Analysing the latest reports, out of the total 119 seats, INC is succeeding with 61 seats and followed by BRS in the second position with 34 seats. While BJP is currently at the third position in the total seat share with only 8 seats. Along with Telangana, the Assembly elections were held in four other states including Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Mizoram. The results of these states except Mizoram were announced on Sunday. While INC dominated Telangana defeating the BRS, BJP dominated all other three states pushing back INC.
