What Happened In The By-Polls Held Across India

Today was not just the Maharashtra and Jharkhand assembly election result day. Apart from these states, the Election Commission of India held byelections to several Assembly constituencies in 14 states across the country. The Commission has also held two Lok Sabha byelections as well recently, for Wayanad and Nanded constituencies. Congress retained the Wayanad Lok Sabha in which its senior party leader Priyanka Gandhi bettered the majority, and in Nanded BJP’s Dr Santukrao Marotrao Hambarde is leading currently.

In the Assembly bypolls, BJP has won seats in eight states out of the total 14. Congress has won seats in five seats while regional players TMC and AAP have won big in West Bengal and Punjab respectively.

In the by-election held in the nine Assembly constituencies across Uttar Pradesh, the ruling BJP has managed to pull an impressive performance after the 2024 Lok Sabha debacle. BJP is leading in six seats while its alliance Jayant Choudhary’s  RLD is ahead in one seat.

In Wayanad Lok Sabha by-poll, Congress’ Priyanka Gandhi is racing ahead with the margin of more than 4 lakh votes. Meanwhile, the Palakkad Lok Sabha by-polls, after witnessing a tough battle with the BJP’s candidate in the initial stage, Congress’ Rahul Mamkootathil won with a vote margin of 18,840.

In West Bengal, All India Trinamool Congress of Mamata Banerjee has won four seats and was leading in other two.
