Rajasthan will go for polls on November 25, but Congress has yet to reveal the names its candidates. Congress, in other states, namely Madhya Pradesh, Mizoram, Chhattisgarh and Telangana that is going to polls, has already declared its candidates” list. According to Indian Express, the delay in the process was because Mr. Gehlot would like to renominate all his ministers while the Central Election Committee of the party does not want to take risk in appointing anyone who is less likely to bring in the desired result.
It is said that Mr. Gehlot want to appoint all the six MLAs of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), who joined Congress in 2019. He also wants to appoint Congressmen who supported him when his government was facing crisis. Report says, “insiders” said that the Central Election Committee of the party chose to follow internal survey provided by the poll strategist Sunil Kanugolu and his team. The leadership does not wish to give tickets to those who do not appear to win the election. But Mr. Gehlot do not have big faith in the strategist’s list as he said at one of the meeting that he knows Rajasthan better than the strategists.
On Wednesday, Congress’s Central Election Committee (CEC) met to decide on the candidates of around 100 seats but could only decode upon half of the list. The central leaders were asked to pitch in names of at least three possible candidates for each of the seat. Amid the resistance from Mr. Gehlot, the screening committee could not come up with multiple name of the potential candidates. It is also said that Mr. Gehlot is against the notion of denying tickets to the ministers and MLAs whose names were dragged along with corruptions. It is believed that the candidates list could only hold the names of those with whom no side have any disagreements.
