If exit polls are taken seriously, BJP is going to make big gains in West Bengal on the account of Mamata Banerjee and TMC. Exit polls suggest big win for BJP in West Bengal, with predictions indicating that the party might surpass Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress (TMC) in the Lok Sabha elections.
The Jan Ki Baat poll forecasts the BJP securing between 21 and 26 seats, while the TMC is expected to win 16-18 seats. India News-D-Dynamics predicts 21 seats for the BJP and 19 for the TMC. Similarly, Republic Bharat-Matrize estimates the BJP will win between 21 and 25 seats, with the TMC likely to secure 16-20 seats.
R Bangla’s poll suggests a role reversal from 2019, giving the BJP 22 seats and the TMC 18. Several other polls also predict that the BJP will win over 20 seats, outpacing the TMC.
However, TV9 Bharatvarsh-Polstrat and News Nation present different scenarios. TV9 Bharatvarsh-Polstrat forecasts 24 seats for the TMC and 17 for the BJP, while News Nation predicts 22 seats for the TMC and 19 for the BJP.
Regarding the Congress, most polls suggest it will replicate its 2019 performance, winning two seats at most. Jan Ki Baat predicts 0-2 seats for the Congress, India News-D-Dynamics expects 2 seats, and Republic Bharat-Matrize suggests 0-1 seats. R Bangla predicts the Congress will not win any seats. ABP News-C Voter is the exception, predicting 1-3 seats for the Congress.
The BJP’s strong push in West Bengal, following their defeat in the 2021 Assembly elections, seems to be paying off. Despite winning only 77 of the 294 Assembly seats in 2021, the BJP has managed to turn the tide in its favor.
The BJP’s performance in 2019, where it won 18 of the state’s 42 seats, appears to be a precursor to an even better outcome this time. Most exit polls now predict the BJP will be the single-largest party in Bengal in terms of Lok Sabha seats, overtaking the TMC, which won 22 seats in the last election.
NDTV’s Poll of Polls, an aggregate of various exit polls, also supports this trend, predicting 22 seats for the BJP and 19 for the TMC.
The upcoming results will reveal if the BJP can indeed outdo Mamata Banerjee and the TMC in Bengal.
