Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor faces complaint on “hurting religious sentiments”. The complaint was filed by two advocates in Mumbai at Ghatkopar police station, against Mr. Kapoor and his family for allegedly insulting “Sanatan Dharama” and hurting religious sentiments.

Advocate Pankaj Mishra and Ashish Rai filed the complaint by referring to a viral video of Ranbir Kapoor celebrating Christmas, during which Mr. Kapoor was seen cutting cake by saying “Jay Mata Di”, when another member of the Kapoor family poured wine. The incident happened during Ranbir Kapoor along with family attended the annual Christmas lunch at Kunal Kapoor’s residence.

In the viral video, Kunal Kapoor, Ranbir Kapoor’s uncle, was seen sitting in front of the Christmas cake, while Zahan Kapoor, one of the cousins of Ranbir Kapoor, who made his debut into Bollywood this year with ‘Faraaz’, was seen pouring wine. Ranbir Kapoor then lights up the cake and was heard as saying ‘Jai Mata di’.

The complaint against the Kapoor was said that in Hinduism, fire God is invoked before invoking other deities, but Ranbir Kapoor and his family members deliberately used intoxicants which are prohibited in Hindu religion while celebrating the festival of another religion and chanted “Jai Mata di”. The complaint said the incident hurt religious sentiments of the complainant and other Sanatana Dharmis. The advocates also said that the law and order could be jeopardized from the circulation of the “unsettling video”.

The complaint seek to register an FIR against Mr. Kapoor and his family under section 295 A (Deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion and religious beliefs), section 298 (uttering words, etc., with deliberate intent to wound religious feelings), section 500 (defamation), and section 34 (Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention). However, no FIR was reported to be registered against Mr. Kapoor and his family regarding the complaint.
