Kannada actor Rishab Shetty, who won the Best Actor award in the 70th National Film Awards for his stellar performance in the 2022 release Kannada film Kantara, has stirred the internet with his opinion over the Bollywood film industry. He made a controversial statement calling out the Hindi film industry for portraying Indian cinema in a bad light in international film festivals.
The National award winner actor also expressed his feelings of being responsible for creating good films.

The actor is currently on a promotional spree for his upcoming comedy thriller Laughing Buddha. In his recent interview with Metro Saga, while addressing the social message conveyed through the films said that Indian films, especially Bollywood, have shown India in a bad light. “These art films are invited to global events and given a red carpet welcome,” Rishab said, adding, “My nation, my state, my language is my pride. Why not show it on a positive note? That’s what I am trying to do.”
This statement of the actor flamed controversies on social media, where people started pinpointing concepts like the objectification of women, and the glorification of problematic behavior in his films. Disputes were also raised on the internet with people defending the Hindi film industry and its contribution to representing Indian cinema on international stages, while others grasped the actor’s message to create good and responsible films.

On the work front, Rishab is busy with the shooting of his upcoming film, Kantara: Chapter 1, a prequel of the film of the same name. According to reports, the film is expected to hit theatres in early 2025 although an official confirmation is still awaited.
