The beloved Lion King story is back, but this time, Disney is going to take the audience back to the past to trace the rise of the King, Mufasa. The teaser trailer for the upcoming prequel, Mufasa: The Lion King, has been unveiled, promising an adventure as The Lion King universe expands further.
Directed by Barry Jenkins, known for his Oscar-winning Moonlight (2017), the prequel will follow the iconic Mufasa in his childhood alongside his brother Taka, later adopting the persona of Scar, and his subsequent rise as the King of the Jungle.
The trailer boasts a star-studded cast, including the return of old cast members such as John Kani as Rafiki, Seth Rogen as Pumbaa, Billy Eichner as Timon, Donald Glover as Simba, and Beyonce Knowles-Carter as Nala. The latter’s daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, will play the role of Kiara, the daughter of Simba and Nala.
An impressive addition of new cast members includes Mads Mikkelsen as Kiros, Tiffany Boone as Sarabi, and Kagiso Lediga as Young Rafiiki.
Voicing the young versions of Mufasa is Aaron Pierre, while Kelvin Harrison Jr. voices Scar. James Earl Jones reprises his role as the royal Mufasa.
The music for the film has been penned by Hamlet fame Lin-Manuel Miranda. After the 2019 remake, Lebo M. Jeff Nathanson returns as the screenwriter.
